This is our live recording on Saturday, Aug 27, 2011, from Plur Entertainment's 2 day Naughty or Nice Electronic Music Festival in the Black Hills, South Dakota. Me & Plur Cowboy tagged it up, opening for our Headliners, the Soul Puncherz, and were hyped up by Casper, Wyoming MCs Doc Suess & Alphamatic. This was definitely an EPIC performance from us. Thanks to the Colorado kids for recording this for us smiley

House mix recorded 9-1-11

REVIEW WRITTEN BY: Will Bouzeneris

Whether Jesse Kung Pow is playing in the buzzing streets of San Francisco, or in South Dakota, he knows how to bring the crowd to the dance floor. He starts out his new set, “No Electro” with a real Jazzy feel, and the horns that flutter through it almost transcend popular music. The brass sounds like their chord is tweaked while Jesse Kung Pow, one of California's fast rising stars in the EDM scene, adds a dash of fidget through the House buildup. Through the cavalcade of Fidget House, you hear the voice of Peggy Lee wafting through the crowded club. She repeats “Get Up” as she makes her way onto the stage of the new age disco.
Bust out the futuristic zoot-suits, because the next level of funky is reached with a great song by Gramophonedzie entitled “No Sugar”. Its the song you hear before the real raging is about to happen, like the set is building up to its eventual climax.
“Treat me bad, you wont get no sugar from me,
cause when disco's sad, she wont be so sugary sweet”
“No Sugar” blends flawlessly into “Do What You Wanna Do”, which was originally from T-Connection. T-Connection made the original in 1977, so its only appropriate that this is whats bringing in the disco. It's the kind of song that gives you the unseen memory of your parents gigging out in bell-bottoms under a disco ball in the mid seventies, but that’s exactly what pulls you in.
And then this song happens. “Rock the Disco” is something that you find yourself repeating over and over, with this song easily being the climax of the set. Midway through song he drops the sound really low, then hits a hard bass a few times to surprise us. The voice sounds tweaked, and the song gets a different feel to it, like how a party might feel at one in the morning, compared to eleven.
Then it gets really funky, Prince walks into the disco with “When doves Cry”. The synth really pops out at you, you cant listen to this without wanting to dance.
“Dance the Way I Feel” sounds sped up and fidgeted out, but opens with the lyrics of the set that really stick with you:
“Stop breathin',
Imagine none of this is real,
Well I just dance the way I feel”
This is another one of those sets that, months later, still seems to captivate everyone who I have had listen to it.
